Oregano essential oil comes from the Oreganum vulgare plant, native to Europe and used medicinally since the ancient Greek and Roman civilisations. It is also used widely as a culinary herb.
The name oregano comes from the Greek, ‘oros’ meaning mountain, and ‘ganos’ meaning joy or delight, as it is a pretty flowering plant that grows on the mountain sides.
